I know, I know… it’s Tuesday.

The thing is, I was stumped– and… sad.  After watching my beloved Forty-Niners lose their quest for a sixth Super Bowl by THIS much, visualize thumb and forefinger held up, VERY close together, it was difficult to know what song to kick the week off with.

Do I find a heart-breaking ballad, an inspirational Rocky theme song that conjures images of a training montage or something pro-woman to get the vision of Beyonce’s tasteless halftime show out of my head? (I mean it, people, what with the licking of the finger, then running it down her cleavage and the tongue undulations.  My nine-year-old said in tones of heavy disdain, “Mom, what IS she doing?” To which I replied, “Setting the cause against the objectification of women back thirty years, that’s what, Anna.”  Anna frowned at me and said as she returned to playing Mind Craft, “Whatever, she’s tacky.” Out of the mouths of babes.)

Where was I?

Sometimes, in times of trauma and sadness, it’s best to return to one’s comfort zone.  For me this will always include German rockers, the Scorpions, and not just because I think Matthias Jabs looks a tinsy bit like my husband.  As I made this realization, the perfect song came to me, “Make it Real” from their 1980 album, “Animal Magnetism.”

It’s a song about taking your dreams and setting the wheels rolling towards achieving your goals.  The lyrics say, “Make it real, not fantasy.”  The Forty-Niners did not succeed in their quest for a sixth Lombardi trophy, this time.  I am not a successful writer, today.  My friend, Debbie, does not have her own sweet shop in downtown Livermore, yet.  Because these dreams have not been actualized to date does not mean they will not be reality in the future.

Which means my Niners will be back.

It makes perfect sense that the Scorpions wrote this song and still perform it today.  Who better could understand the importance of making your dreams real than rock stars doing what they love best in the world, and getting paid for it?  Check out Rudolf Schenker in the video below (the tall blond guitar player)- there’s a guy living his fantasy.

So, “Make it Real,” my friends.

The quest for six continues...

The quest for six continues…

Here are the lyrics to “Make it Real”:

You can always trust your inner feelings
’cause they always tell the truth
Where did it get you, then your analyzing
Just do what feels right for you

If you take life as a crazy gamble
Throw your dice take your chance
You will see it from the different angle
And you too can join the dance

Make it real not fantasy
Fantasy
Make it real not fantasy
Fantasy oooh yeah

Did you ever have a secret yearning
Don’t you know it could come true
Now’s the time to set wheels turning
To open up your life for you

As you know there’s always good and evil
Make your choice don’t be blind
Open up your mind and don’t be trivial
There’s a whole new world to find

Make it real not fantasy
Fantasy
Make it real not fantasy
Fantasy oooh yeah

Did you ever have a secret yearning
Don’t you know it could come true
Now’s the time to set wheels turning
To open up your life for you

If you take life as a crazy gamble
Throw your dice take your chance
You will see if from a different angle
And you too will join the dance

Make it real not fantasy
Fantasy
Make it real not fantasy
Fantasy

Make it real not fantasy
Fantasy
Make it real not fantasy
Fantasy oooh yeah
