So far I have three books done- still working on that magical publication gig though. My fourth is almost done and then I will add the first chapter here.
I completed “The Dragon in The Garden” in 2012 and it has seen many drafts since then. Originally I thought it would be a children’s book, maybe middle grade. Then a hot fallen angel turned up and I knew I was writing another adult book.
There is magic beneath the mundane and in “The Dragon in the Garden”, Siobhan Orsini witnesses it all. No lie can fool her, no glamour or illusion can cloud her Sight. She sees through them all and wishes she could close her eyes. Returning to face her past, Siobhan inherits her grandparents’ house in California’s wine country. She encounters a talking dragon, a hot fallen angel, a demon lord, a Valkyrie, and, oh yes, her ex-boyfriend. And that is just in the first twenty-four hours.
It’s time to find out why she has this power.
Siobhan seeks out the Oracle and learns that only her Sight can help mankind navigate the travails of an ancient war. Our world is the prize in a battle between the dragons, who would defend us, and Lucifer’s fallen angels, who seek to take the Earth for themselves. Using her gift, she will have to make a choice that will decide humanity’s future.
Next I wrote “Sea Strand” and finished it in 2013. It’s seen its share of revisions as well. Sort of the story of an author’s life, I guess. Twenty-two year old Anna O’Sullivan has made one disturbing discovery after another. Her father did not die seventeen years ago. She is not an only child. In fact, Anna is not entirely human- she’s a selkie. Oh yes, and her college crush is a druid. It’s been that kind of week.
Anna’s fraternal twin, Ella, arrives to tell her that their father is a hostage, taken by the Sea Witch, and guarded by her beautiful, malevolent sirens. The sisters are half breeds born of the union between their human mother and selkie father. Leaving the life she’s known behind, Anna literally dives into adventure. The sisters must face the Guardians of the deep then rescue their father and defeat Lorelei, the Sea Witch. Otherwise she will seize the selkies’ magic to awaken the all-powerful Sun Stone and dominate the world.
“Spells of a Mortal’s Weaving” is the book that I started in the spring of 1993. I finally finished it in 2011. Ideally, this would be book one of three. I need to see if the publishing world will consent to books two & three. Oh, who am I kidding? I have to see what happens so I’ll write them regardless!
What is it about, you ask? Just your basic epic fantasy tale: a parallel world, an oppressed people with magical talents, wizards, warriors, true love, battles, evil doers and through it all places I wish were real and characters that ought to be! Welcome to my head.
